Brief introduction to the production method of bronze Buddha statue

The history of bronze Buddha statues can be traced to the Tubo Kingdom. After this, the innumerable Buddha images were produced and enshrined as Buddhist carriers. Whether in a temple or in a family, bronze Buddha statues are used as a symbol of sacredness. Let's take a look at the external features and craftsmanship of the Buddha.

The bronze Buddha statues produced by the bronze carving factory are generally based on the ancient Tibetan Buddha statues. The Tibetan Buddha statues come in many different forms and forms. The size of the cast bronze Buddha statue has a great relationship with the manufacturing process, especially the casting process. There are two kinds of casting techniques for Tibetan Buddha statues known at present, namely the lost wax method and the Sha Fan method. The lost wax method is commonly used in the ancient metal casting process. It is made of paraffin to make the same mold as the casting. The material is applied on the outside of the mold. After drying, the wax is melted by heating, and then the metal solution is poured into the mold. . For example, a bronzed Buddha statue will pour the molten copper solution into the mold. After solidification, the outer casing is removed and a casting is obtained. This method is also widely used in modern foundry copper mills and is called investment precision forging. The Shafan method uses natural sand as an external material, and a certain proportion of clay is added to the sand to bond the sand together. The sand is compacted and placed in a sandbox to form Shafan. Shafan is composed of two identical parts. The model of the casting is placed in the sand. In order to prevent the sand from sticking, the powder particles like grass ash can be sprinkled on the contact surface of Shafan. After the bronze sculpture Shafan is closed, the molten metal is poured into the sand fan to obtain the casting. Both methods described above have limitations on the size of the casting. As the volume of cast bronze Buddha statues increases, the difficulty of casting increases, and foundries have to seek new copper casting processes. There are two forms of bronze Buddha statues, which are sitting and standing. The sitting style is stable and the production process is more representative.
